In 2007 on the heels of the death of both parents due to cancer Jamel's life would change drastically. Just 21 yrs old he was now full guardian of his disabled sister, navigating life in the city of Detroit..
A back injury would eventually deliver the blow that led him to seek relief from a life that was breaking him down.
It was during a visit with a friend where yoga was suggested..
The aim was to fix his back but he soon discovered the practice held the keys to much more.
Jamel dove in completely.Studying, practicing and being trained in the healing modalities of yoga, massage therapy and the philosophies of eastern medicine..
He soon realized that more people in the communities needed this. Unfortunately the world of yoga hasn’t always been inviting to minorities and those that don’t match the profile of a “yogi”..
This need led Jamel to enter yoga teacher training with the hope to inspire others to begin.
This sparked Jamel to begin teaching his Trap Yoga classes where he incorporates music, dance and yoga as a way to introduce the practice in a fun yet informative way..
Since then Jamel has taught and spoke on the benefits to thousands in his hometown of Detroit,Mi and across the country.
His teachings have been requested at corporations, groups, schools and Frito Lay,Brefix,The Boys and Girls Clubs,Illinois State University,Alma College and many more seeking to introduce wellness to their team.
In 2016 he founded The Trap Yoga and Massage Studio. A company with a mission to introduce, teach and encourage health and wellness as a lifestyle..
Jamel believes that the way towards a life free from restriction is by embracing the uncomfortable parts of your life story and inspiring others to do the same.
